Governors

Welcome to our Governors' section.

Welcome to the High View Governing body page.  Here you will find information regarding our role and how we support the school. Anyone wishing to contact our Governing Board can do so via the school office.

What is the role of the of the Governing Body?

The Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.  The Governing Body are a group of volunteers who give up large amounts of their own time to support the staff and act as a critical friend by providing strategic management.  They help to maintain high standards of educational achievement, manage the school's finances, make sure that the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and aid in the appointment of staff.

The Governing Body is presently comprised of the following:

Mrs K Finnis - Foundation Governor
Chair of Governing Body
18th January 2022 - 17th January 2026 (Second term)

I grew up in a home where learning was always strongly encouraged but never enforced. My own mum, a retired teacher, had always given me the opportunity to support her in the classroom, so from a very early age I was aware of what happened 'behind the scenes' in schools. I travelled, lived and studied in America for several years, and while there, I worked and volunteered for the Boys and Girls' Clubs in Wisconsin. This afforded me the experience of working with young people from a hugely diverse range of backgrounds. I'd always imagined my career would end up leading me into an educational setting, however that transpired not to be the case!

I work full time as the Corporate Partners Manager for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, a City of London based charity which works with businesses and individuals in our mission to create A Better City for All. This allows me to bring experiences from a very different work setting to the Governing Body.

As a parent and step-parent to High View pupils, I had always taken a keen interest in the school, so when the opportunity arose to join the Governing Board I was glad to take the position. As part of my role I sit on the Sutton Education Trust Board and I am link governor for Maths, Literacy and Science.

Outside of school and work, I spend most of my free time with my large extended, blended family and take the opportunity when it arises to run, read, cook and enjoy time outdoors with our dog.

Ms J Woodcock -  Vice Chair of Governing Body
13th October 2022 - 12th October 2026 (Second term)

I have recently retired from my career as a registered nurse where I worked in nurse education for the last 28 years. Working in nurse education I was able to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for the profession to develop the future nursing workforce.

I decided to become a school governor as I felt my experience in nurse education gave me some transferable skills . Now that I am retired I remain keen to ensure that all our pupils get the right educational support and that we provide an environment where they can thrive and achieve their full potential.

My other interests include travel, socialising with friends and family and attending shows and concerts.

Mrs A Taylor - Co-opted Governor
27th January 2021 - 26th January 2025

I’m the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for the BBC. I’m responsible for the BBC’s strategic approach to creating an organisation that is truly inclusive and one that has a diverse workforce, which reflects and is representative of the audiences they serve.

I’ve always been intrigued as to how schools operate in terms of what it takes to maintain children's happiness and health in an educational setting, both physically and mentally. I believe becoming a governor is a vital way of contributing to the future of education. It means I can give back to my local community whilst also aiding me in my own knowledge and understanding of the education sector ready for when my own children reach that stage.

School is such an influential part of a child's learning journey. Being a positive role model for children from all walks of life is very important to me, particularly those from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds. I plan to use my responsibility as a Governor to create real lasting impact.

Outside of work, I most enjoy spending time with my family, reading, spinning classes and socialising with friends.

Mr A Tyeloo - Co-opted Governor
Nov 2024 - Nov 2028

As a passionate advocate for education and technology, I am eager to serve as a school governor to bridge the gap between governmental initiatives and the educational landscape. With a background in government focused on artificial intelligence and technology, I understand the critical role that innovative solutions play in shaping the future of our schools.

My experience enables me to contribute valuable insights into how technology can enhance learning environments factoring the needs of all students, from a range of diverse backgrounds and improve outcomes.

As a parent of students who attend High View, I have a strong interest in supporting the development of our children’s future ensuring they have tools, resources, and the right support for their educational journey.

Outside of work, I have a passion for cooking, DJing and watching lots of football.

Mrs A Howell - LA Appointed Governor
1st July 2023 - 30th June 2027

When I am not volunteering, I am a solicitor - my specialism is tax and dispute resolution. Primarily, I ensure that my  clients pay only the right amount of tax - nothing less and nothing more. I am happily married and blessed with a supportive family made up of my wife and two sons.

I am a chartered accountant who works supporting companies navigate complex financial issues when they are undergoing disruptive events. I have always loved problem solving and working in challenging situations which is what drew me to my job. Prior to my career in finance, I worked in education as a senior admin officer in a SEN school, a position I hugely enjoyed and felt passionate about. When the opportunity arose to become a Governor, it immediately felt like the right thing to do to get involved and help use my skillset to support the school to meet the needs of children and ensure they are able to meet their full potential. It has always meant a lot to me to ensure children and individuals from all backgrounds feel empowered to be themselves and get the right toolkit they need to succeed. I look forward to being able to meet new people and contribute to new challenges to make my role as governor a success. Outside of work and volunteering, I love to spend time with my family and friends and really enjoy running (not that I'm very good at it!).

Mr K Rahman - Parent Governor
Nov 2024 - Nov 2028

I currently work within Operational Risk and Compliance for a large high street bank.  I provide risk oversight to senior business stakeholders across my organisation, assisting them in identifying and appropriately managing the most material operational, conduct and compliance related risks across their product suites.  I essentially act as both a soundboard and a conscience for them, helping to ensure their decisions remain on the right side of regulations and achieve the best possible outcomes for customers.

As a parent to High View pupils I had a keen interest in understanding how the school operated, and how it could continue to cultivate a nurturing and encouraging environment at a time when educational budgets are under immense pressure.  I was therefore hugely excited when the opportunity to join the school's governing board arose, enabling me to make a positive contribution to my local community whilst also helping further my own knowledge and understanding. My 'day-job' involves managing and navigating a number of complex stakeholder, process and operational issues, so I hope to be able to utilise some of these skills in my role as a governor to help to steer High View towards realising its potential as an outstanding academic establishment, where children of all abilities and backgrounds will be able to thrive.

Outside of work I like to spend time with family and friends and (though my wife would disagree!) am also a keen cook.

Mr B Walter - Parent Governor
Nov 2024 - Nov 2028

I’m a Lead Superintendent within the NHS and a parent, bringing plenty of experience in leadership and people management. I’m really excited about the chance to contribute to High View Primary School and the wider education system as a parent governor. I believe my background gives me the skills and perspective to help support the school in creating a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving environment for every student.

In my NHS role, I’ve developed strong leadership and planning skills, along with a solid understanding of teamwork, communication, and staying resilient under pressure. Working with diverse teams has taught me the importance of collaboration and inclusivity—both of which I think are key to any school’s success. My clinical experience also means I can bring useful insights into areas like student well-being, mental health, and safeguarding, which are such important parts of school life today.

I’m looking forward to working with the governing body, staff, and parents to help make sure High View Primary is a place where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

In my free time, I love spending quality moments with my family, playing badminton, travelling to new places, and discovering unique coffee blends and flavours.
